0.9.4.1 Lost Memories

Has anyone managed to reach the correct ending and unlock the Interceptor Guard? The first step is failing the quest to receive the dull memento ring but I'm struggling to do even that. Assumed you had to just mess up with shadow as much as possible (pay low, get him killed or low hp etc) but that just results in him leaving the map for good.

While your at it, how the fuck do you actually reliably encounter Shadow? I find him strictly based on luck, it is really annoying to look for him, and find nothing. I thought it was based on Time of day, but I stood in the same place while 3 in-game days passed and he never came, I don't think it is off of Quest Completion either, so could someone please help? Oh also is the Memento Ring E actually obtainable?

Karifean said the memento ring e is not obtainable. Usually you can find shadow again in one of his spawn points 2 minutes after he leaves the party, unless he has negative motivation then he's gone for good I think (note these are just my recent observations they could be entirely wrong I haven't tested yet). I'll test later and edit this reply when im sure about shadow's behaviour.

Thanks, I don't even know all of his spawn points, ive seen his sneaky ass in kalm, the farm area, and I think naga island. You mentioned an "interceptor guard", is that an accessory? Im doing a mega agility build, and I recently finished up the iron Duke, I know you haven't gotten this item but do you know if it is a high agi item?

Interceptor Guard is a shield that gives: Str 50, Agi 50, Armor 40, reduces melee damage to 50% returning the damage blocked to the attacker, and gives a 50% chance to block a ranged attack. You could definitely use this for an agi build but cursed genji shield would give 25 more agi and some resistance (which you would lack with other genji gear). Hidden Hero Medicine is the best accessory in terms of stats (+300 to all stats if u spam it perfectly, atleast 100 if you just use it casually).

So the highest agi build would be: Seitengrat + cursed genji gear + Hidden Hero Medicine. If you have no mana with this build you can replace cursed genji mask with normal genji mask (only hp and mp changes). If you have mana to spare you can grind your way to a cursed masamune which gives just 5 agi less but has a decent crit - I'm guessing you want Seitengrat rapid fire for your agi build though.

Yeeeeeeee you guessed it, I already have that build aside from hidden hero medicine, and I do indeed have non-cursed genji mask even though i could GM a mage class or 2, well damn it looks like I'll have to wait for the next patch to get higher agi. Because if you say 100 to all stats with casual use of hidden, then im probably better off with the Duke seeing as it gives 25 armor and freelancer armor is absolutely disgusting.

I also use this build it's pretty cool. However, I've come to hate how Rapid Fire gets messed up by everything. Cliffs? You're screwed. Allies? You're screwed. Flying enemy? You're screwed. Spirit of Gaya blinking onto your face? You're screwed. Random tumbleweed blowing in from the barrens? You guessed it - screwed.

It's worked out pretty well for me, I do a melee build anyway, so I just come right up to them and it mostly hits its mark, unless yeah they are flying in which case I get fukt, my agi build isn't only committed to rapid fire tho. I have a 32.5 percent chance to crit for 14k, if I were to do a hidden hero spam, I could prolly get 19k

Rapid Fire + Bravery + Iainuki + Aim, probably. That's the first thing I tried with freelancer and seems to be the strongest damage build. Recently I've been using spell builds though, the cursed staffs are amazing and I got bored of staring at freelancer's basic attack animation not even having to cast anything.

Hmm, that sounds cool, but why not just use wizard class with the cursed arch mage staff considering he gets all the abilities at higher levels? Actually if I have the concept wrong I wouldn't mind you explaining the cursed arch mage staff. My brother is the party mage so this would be nice to know

OK so I analyzed a replay and observed the following:

00:00 Kalm                           ~1:00-2:30 hired
09:30 Guardia                       ~10:00-11:30 hired
18:30 Naga Islands                ~23:15-24:45 hired
31:45 Northern Mountain
Intermission ~_~
53:30-58:30 Lothlorien                 ~Didn't meet him from here on out
58:30-1:03:30 Farm (gnoll camp)
1:03:30-1:08:30 Lothlorien forest
1:08:30-1:13:30 Barrens
1:13:30-1:19:30 Guardia Forest
1:19:30-1:24:30 -
1:24:30-1:29:30 Central Islands

Conclusions (from this data and what I remember from other plays):

  • He will always spawn first in Kalm and there's a good chance his 2nd spawn will be in Guardia Forest
  • From 3rd spawn onwards he will choose random regions but never choosing a region he's been in before until he's done a full rotation.
  • His actual spawn point in the region is random
  • He will stay at his spawn point for 5 minutes or until hired
  • After leaving the party he will be unavailable for 7 minutes at which point he will resume his previous spawn behaviour


I'm tired now so I'll continue this some other time. What I'll check next:

  • The effect that shadow declining your offer has.
  • What affects his motivation
  • Is the goal to gain a maximal or minimal motivation or does that have nothing to do with the quest
  • If giving shadow the ring at a certain point on the map affects the quest outcome (tested at relm, the great tree, omega/ultima area and the tombstone/portal near hashmalum for negative results - can't think of anywhere else where this may be a thing)

The issue with Staff of the Magi A is that it drops int by a whopping 100. Wizard or calculator with that staff is great against multiple targets, but against a single boss it isn't much of a damage increase - pretty much only the fire spells deal great damage to 1 target and in that case Fire Wand stats are superior. Also, maxed freelancer stats are too good to ignore unless you want a special skill that he doesn't have access to. I make something like freelancer with Fire Wand K, Holy Fire + support spell or stun + Firaja + Int100/manashield/oil barrel and it wrecks stuff in very hard mode where enemy armor buff really cripples physical hits. Can even go bravery and aim for an effective mixed damage type build.

Figure out the shield trigger yet? I've got it myself and know the chain of events. Was just curious if you had gotten along further.

Shadow's spawning is random, with more locations being available the higher the player's levels are.

Andrenden and DGD-Kamina, will any of you give us a hint about the shield trigger?

and i wonder, how did you guys even know that there's a quest in the first place?
